Head Coach Melissa Nelmark
Melissa Nelmark is in her first season as interim head coach for the University of Wisconsin-Superior women's soccer team. She graduated from UWS in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education and a minor in coaching. As an athlete at UWS, Nelmark was a contributing member of the Yellowjackets women's softball team which captured the university’s first-ever women’s Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship in 2002.
During the 2002 season, Nelmark was named to the WIAC All-Conference, the Great Lakes All-Region and the All-Regional Tournament teams. After a year off of from playing soccer, she returned to the field in 2002; however her season was cut short due to a knee injury. She then returned to the softball team in 2004 and was once again an integral member of the Yellowjackets’ WIAC championship team. Following the season she was named to the All-Regional Tournament team for the second time in her career.
Nelmark’s previous coaching experiences include working with established and new programs. She coached alpine ski racing for the established Team Duluth program from 2006-08 and soccer for the distinguished East Select Soccer Club. Nelmark also coached the initial Wrenshall fastpitch softball teams during its first two seasons (2007 and 2008).
Nelmark, a graduate of Duluth East High School, transferred to UWS from the University of Minnesota-Morris. At UMM, she was named a Northern Sun Intercollegiate All-Conference honorable mention selection in 1999 and 2000, was named MVP of the UMM soccer team in 1999 and in 2000 was named the team's best defensive player.
As a softball player at Morris, she was named the team's best defensive player in 2000 and 2001, as well as co-most inspirational in 2001.
Nelmark holds her Initial Educator License in Wisconsin and the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) National D license. She is currently working toward earning a Master’s degree in Instruction.

Head Coach Joe Mooney
Joe Mooney, an alumnus of UW-Superior, begins his first season as the head coach of the Yellowjackets' men's soccer team in August. Mooney served as a volunteer assistant coach for UWS in 2007. Prior to that, he was the head coach of the Spooner-Shell Lake (WI) High School girls' team for two years. He was also an assistant for the Spooner-Shell Lake boys' team for five years.
As a player at UWS, Mooney was a four-year starter and three-year captain. He also spent three months in 2003 playing with the Newtongrange Star, a Division I professional team in Newtongrange, Scotland.
Mooney earned his bachelor's degree from UW-Superior in 2006 with a Broadfield Social Studies Education major. He also holds a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) "D" coaching license.
Mooney, 25, inherits a team that was 6-8-1 last year. "Our immediate goal is to continue to build a program that is highly competitive on the field while reflecting the overall commitment of the university and the athletic department to providing a high quality educational experience for its students," says Mooney.
